Labour information sheets

The ATGA has developed a series of resources for growers and employees in the table grape industry on the role of labour hire providers, becoming an approved employer (AE), the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees.

1. Information on Approved Employers

Being an approved employer (AE) can have significant benefits for growers. However, AEs must meet rigorous criteria and adhere to a higher level of requirements and responsibilities than employers who use labour hire providers. This document looks at the process of becoming an AE, responsibilities and important links.

3. Information for Employers

Employers have a responsibility to take all reasonably practicable steps to minimise or eliminate any risk to the health or safety of workers and others at the workplace. This information sheet addresses the frameworks businesses and employers must have in place to protect themselves and their workers.

2. Information on Labour Hire Providers

A labour hire company (LHC) – also known as a labour hire provider (LHP) – supplies one or more workers to perform work (not a specialised service) “in and as part of” a business/undertaking of a host. Here we explore the definitions and roles of LHCs and hosts, and important legal requirements for LHCs/hosts, including licensing.

4. Information for Employees

Employees have a responsibility to take all reasonably practicable steps to minimise any risk to the health or safety of themselves and others within the workplace. This information sheet addresses the definition of an employee, rights and responsibilities, and what to expect when working on-farm.
