13 November 2025: Integrated Pest Management in California

Sunraysia producers are invited to a joint industry event next week featuring US pest management specialist David Haviland.

David will share insights from more than 20 years of work helping Californian producers manage pest pressures across multiple crops. He’ll discuss what works (and what doesn’t) in integrated pest management, exploring lessons that Australian growers and technical service providers might find beneficial.

David is an Entomology and Pest Management Advisor from the University of California’s Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

He develops and disseminates integrated pest management programs that address pest management needs across all commodities grown in the southern San Joaquin Valley.

He has focused his efforts on permanent crops, where he has worked on monitoring programs, treatment thresholds, chemical control, biological control and mating disruption of key pests of almonds, pistachios, grapes, citrus, blueberries and cherries.

This has helped growers defend themselves from native and invasive pests such as navel orangeworm, spider mites, vine mealybug, spotted wing drosophila, Gill’s mealybug, stink bugs, citrus thrips and ants.

Industry events are a key part of the Australian table grape industry development project (TG23001), funded by Hort Innovation using table grape research and development levies and contributions from the Australian Government.
